Objectives

With the "Mobile Medienakademie" , we are committed to strengthening the media skills of young people. With workshops for young people by young people, we support young people and young adults in finding their way in an increasingly mediatised society and dealing critically with media content. At the same time, we teach the necessary journalistic basics in the workshops so that they can work as journalists themselves (e.g. in school newspapers) and thus participate in the opinion-forming process. The "Mobile Medienakademie" follows the peer education approach. This means that the workshops are designed and carried out by young people from the group who have their first experience as media professionals and are still learners themselves (in media professions, editorial offices of university newspapers, study programmes, traineeships, etc.). We see great potential in giving those still learning the chance to try things out and pass on their knowledge in a target group-orientated way. We want to offer young media professionals and budding journalists the opportunity to get involved in civil society and share their media skills and digital affinity with other young people in workshops in a meaningful way. In order to achieve this goal, we therefore organised five training and further education weekends (Mega MobAk Weekend) between 2021 and 2023, in which we trained young media professionals to become teamers or enabled already trained teamers to take part in further training courses. The aim of the qualification weekends is to teach the young media professionals didactic approaches and pedagogical methods on how to transfer their knowledge in workshops as well as to (further) develop teaching and learning materials together that can be used by all teamers from the "Mobile Medienakademie". The main objectives of the "Mobile Medienakademie" are: 1) Teaching media skills from young people to young people and passing on digital skills. Through their work as teamers, they can try things out, become multipliers and experience self-efficacy. In the best-case scenario, volunteering helps to inspire these young people to get involved in youth organisation work - a cornerstone of democratic civil society. 2) Offering young people the opportunity to get involved in civil society and learn how to participate in it. With our workshops, we focus on media skills and create a better understanding of media and a critical approach to information. At the same time, we hope that participants will be inspired and motivated to work creatively with media and produce their own content or participate digitally. 3) Further development of participation opportunities in our network throughout Germany and in youth association work both in Germany and with European partner organisations. 4) To sensitise young people to European values, fundamental rights and democracy and thereby contribute to the European integration process.
