Objectives

The biggest challenge of the school today is the integration of subjects, linking them to real life and providing students with the opportunity to practice B1 and A2 level foreign languages taught at school. It was for these reasons that this project was written. The students' foreign language competence in the first foreign language, i.e. B2 level foreign language, i.e. English, is at a very good level, but there is a lack of opportunities to practice B1 and A2 level languages, especially in the case of French, because French is a language that, in our cultural space, is unfortunately not heard very much outside the classroom. Therefore, due to the lack of practice in French, students have partially developed language fear and linguistic insecurity, which is why they do not dare to speak in French, because they are afraid of making mistakes. Study abroad opportunities for French language students in a French-speaking cultural space help to improve the quality of French language teaching by connecting learning with practice and real life, giving students the opportunity to develop their various competencies and helping increase their learning motivation.

Background

Pärnu Sütevaka Humanitaargümnaasium is a private general education school belonging to the Association of Supporters of Sütevaka High School. The school was founded on August 31, 1990. The mission is to provide general secondary education with a high level of humanitarian emphasis and to cultivate broad-minded, active and responsible members of society and to give students the best possible preparation for continuing their studies in higher education. The school allows students to study in three fields of study: humanitarian, social and nature. French can be learned from the 5th grade as a second foreign language, i.e. as a B1 level language. The school employs four French language teachers, half of whom, or two, are under 30 and the other two are under 40, which is why the teachers have shared youthful energy and strength during various student exchanges and to carry out projects. Liis Raal-Virks conducted 2 eTwinning projects with her students in the 2020-2021 academic year, ed. Raudmäe and Lüter have organized student exchanges with a school in Bretagne in France. Within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, in 2018, we have participated in an international project in the format of an informal youth group. No previous KA1.
