Our goals were to provide the entire team of teachers with knowledge of how to organize the learning process and school learning environment to support sustainable environmental development. Therefore, the most important goals were to give teachers guidelines of how to reach the set goals, to develop students' creativity and also to support self-regulation. Our objectives were to develop an action plan for the implementation of the "Environment and sustainable development" topic in the curriculum to create a comprehensive understanding of an environmentally sustainable lifestyle in students; to implement the planned action plan. In order to achieve this, the following activities are planned: to reduce canteen food waste, to classify and sort garbage, to reduce water, electricity and paper costs, to develop the school's land area, to acquire environment-friendly eating habits.
Narva Orthodox Gymnasium is a private school that bases its educational activities on core educational values and Christian beliefs. The school respects and values the development of a considerate and respectable person. Special attention is paid to the formation of social skills and to raising young people’s environmental awareness. The project was aimed at fostering environmental awareness of teachers and students. We expected that the project would support teachers’ creativity and initiatives that will broaden students' horizons, show them the richness of the living environment, and shape students' environmentally sustainable attitude and its management. Therefore, the most important needs were to give teachers guidelines of how to reach the set goals, to develop students' creativity and also to support self-regulation. Environmentally friendly attitude is especially important because Ida-Viru County is an industrial county. In order to minimize the negative impact on nature, it is important to reduce the ecological footprint of the organization and each student. The challenge is to teach students to value the surrounding environment and to realize that the future of our country and the planet is in their hands.
