Objectives

Vocational training has been offered in Olustve since 1920. Initially, it was an agricultural school, but in the mid-1990s, other fields were added. The school has many different options based on its structural units. The goal was to use the existing opportunities in teaching and to offer further developments based on them. The world is becoming more and more digitized, environmental topics and their related professional studies are of great importance. Covid-19 showed how important the ability to be flexible and innovative is in small business in order to survive. All of the aforementioned must come to school, but Estonia is too small to experience all of this only in Estonia. Therefore, internationalization is also important. By implementing the project, the school wanted to become more international by finding new partners and opportunities for cooperation. Experience how issues related to environmental protection and green economy are solved in other parts of the world, how they are taught, and attitudes are formed. Digital technology is also used in teaching, what solutions in companies, how to teach it. Within the scope of this project, the set goals were achieved.

Background

Olustvere School of Service and Rural Economics is a national vocational education institution managed by HTM, which offers education in level education in 7 curriculum groups: agriculture and animal husbandry, food processing, accommodation and catering, travel, tourism and leisure, crafts, secretarial and office work, economic accounting and taxation. Advanced and retraining courses for adults are offered. The school has its own teaching farm with approx. 700 ha of cultivated land (cereals, potatoes are grown), an educational canteen, (milk, meat, bakery and beverage production), the Olustvere manor complex is managed by the school (approx. 27,000 visits per year). All three structural units are for the primary practical training of learners, they work according to the principle of real company operation. This project supported the development of all curriculum groups in the school through trainings and mobility.
