Objectives

This project aimed to provide an internship opportunity in a company in another European country to allow students to compare and analyze their previous experiences with companies and their operations in Estonia and another European country. The project had two objectives. Firstly, to develop the participants' professional knowledge and skills during the mobility and to reinforce the theoretical knowledge acquired in school to meet the rapidly changing labour market needs in Estonia and Europe. Secondly, to support the development of key competencies, social skills, attitudes, and personal qualities of the project participants through mobility, thereby increasing their learning and work motivation and competitiveness.

Background

Tallinn School of Economics is a vocational institution managed by the Ministry of Education and Research. Since the 2016/2017 academic year, all curricula are at level 5 and from the 2021/2022 academic year, the studies are conducted only in non-stationary form as evening and session studies. During the past academic year, the students could choose to study between 15 initial or continuing vocational education programmes in five study fields. The prerequisite for starting level 5 curricula is having at least secondary education. It means that all students are adults and at least 19 years old. The average age of students who started their studies has been around 30 years in the last three years. The previous education varies wildly. Many younger and older students are acquiring a second speciality. Still, almost half of the students are studying for their first speciality, and a third already have higher education. As studies are conducted only in non-stationary form, nearly all students learn alongside their work. In the 2022/23 academic year, the school had 1627 students. The school had over 150 teachers, most of whom (over 95%) were practitioners from companies and organizations. The size of the non-pedagogical staff was 36.
