First of all, despite having diverse backgrounds all the partner organizations had a common belief that advancing gender equality is crucial in all areas of a healthy society. So we wanted to have our input and advance gender-equality by implementing this project. Prior to implementing the project, we had done a small research about every partner country’s gender equality situation to design the project in a way which would be relevant for everyone. Facing the situations we have in our countries and the stereotypical mentality we come across every day, we decided to take steps, and one of the best ways to do it was addressing the issue to interest youngsters and changing their mentality, attitude, behaviour. For many youngsters street art sounds interesting because of its forbidden nature and reputation, and they are easily loved and accepted if with quality and meaning. Combination of good quality and good message can create real visible, strong and long-lasting value. Our youth exchange served as an excellent platform for bringing together youngsters and leaders, concerned about the issue in a non-formal and multi-cultural environment and work cooperatively towards its solution using art. Bringing this idea to life in Armenia would have a bigger impact, as the people in the local community were given the opportunity to meet international youngsters and get to know their culture, as well as the gender equality values in order to break their own stereotypes and become more open minded. Besides having gender equality problems, the countries chosen were specifically those, who also have big experience of transforming old buildings through street art and raising important issues through them. We wanted to apply this experience in Armenia. The aim of the project was to raise awareness of gender based discrimination through boosting youngsters creative sense of expression. The objectives of the project were: • To step forward to achieving gender equality in society • To empower youngsters to speak up about relevant topics and give them tools to do so • To promote street art and murals as a legal way of expression • To boost creativity of youngsters • To create a long-lasting values in the local communities.
