Objectives

Through the implementation of the project, our school wanted to achieve two objectives, which were set on the basis of the specific characteristics and needs of our school. Specifically, the first objective was to improve learning through digital media and teaching methods that enhance creativity, promote knowledge through gamification, experiential learning as well as teamwork in order to promote knowledge through the use of digital media and in new ways beyond the traditional ones, which seem not to work particularly well in low-performing groups. Low performance was also observed in disadvantaged groups and in foreign languages and thus the second objective of the project was set, which was to improve foreign language learning in the modern multicultural school by immersing in the culture and culture of each country and using interactive methods. By introducing teaching tools such as digital media, theatre, etc., teachers will be able to address the problem of poor performance.

Background

Our school is located in Drapetsona, in a working class area and the main characteristic is the heterogeneity of the student population, which consists of both children of economic migrants and students from the wider Piraeus area with specific learning difficulties. The specific characteristics of the groups of the student community require a different and individualized approach to their problems and needs. In order for the teaching staff to be able to respond effectively to these challenges, they had to be trained in new innovative teaching methods, as it has been observed that traditional methods do not work. Due to the socio-cultural disadvantage of many pupils, many children are forced to either drop out of school or those who remain are performing poorly, especially in foreign languages. It was in response to these challenges that the mobility plan was presented, aiming to introduce digital media, methods and tools that enhance creativity and promote learner-centred learning. At the same time, the introduction of innovative teaching methods, such as the 'flipped classroom' and interactive methods for language learning was promoted.
