Objectives

The project “Paving the way for a greener digital future” aimed at: -Awareness raising of the school community towards climatic change and their assuming initiative for the achievement of sustainable development. With the promotion of environmental literacy at school, our students acquired knowledge and skills so as to become active citizens adopting sustainable ecological, economic and cultural life models, be able to deal with the negative influence of climatic change, care about the environment and contribute to the improvement of the living conditions according to the 17 goals of sustainable development. -Digital skills development using ICT and the multifaceted applications of the Internet. Students’ digital skills improved with their participation in interesting innovative activities and, at the same time, school practices concerning the integration of digital tools developed. -Integration, equality and diversity. For participant selection, priority was given to the weak ones (students coming from poor, single-parent or immigrant families and students with special educational needs) to ensure that they all had equal opportunities and were able to take up initiatives to fight against any kind of discrimination.

Background

The 7th Experimental High School of Trikala supports experimentation, the best educational planning and the pilot implementation of educational policies in random samples of the student population so that innovative educational practices and tools can be fostered and disseminated in the educational community. The school is attended by approximately 250 students aged 12-15 who have classes based on the national Curriculum. After school clubs (Astronomy, Robotics etc), classes for weak students and Integration classrooms for students with special educational needs are also offered so that early school leaving and exclusion can be avoided. Since admission to the school is done by lot, students are of a different economic, social and cultural background (students of urban/rural families and immigrants, mainly Albanians) with fewer opportunities for access to education. Therefore, the school promotes Maths, Science, ICT and Language skills, metacognitive and social capabilities, intercultural understanding, initiative and ecological conscience, all of which are necessary to support critical thinking, creativity, autonomy, active citizenship, social inclusion and employability.
