Objectives

The main objectives of our program were: a) Raising environmental awareness in the school community, the training of students in taking initiatives and their development into active citizens b) Inclusion of students with low performance / low social economic profile or with other difficulties that prevent their smooth integration into school's everyday life, through the creation of welcoming, safe spaces for learning, expression and creation within the school. Additionally, asides to the aesthetic upgrade of the spaces, our objective was the appropriation of these spaces by the students, through their participation in project's teams. c) Digital literacy and familiarity with the use of new technologies, serving the project's main environmental object. d) Development of students' language skills in a multicultural environment, as well as the strengthening of their European identity through all shared activities with partner schools.

Background

The environmental crisis is the most critical issue that modern world is facing, and at the same time it is one of the issues thatconcern particularly our students, as they already face its consequences every day. Our school is located near the center of Athens, in a medium-low income area, environmentally burdened (pollution, lack of green spaces, frequent floods, etc.) and without spaces for entertainment and expression for the children. The program was designed with the aim of developing students' environmental awareness through information and action. At the same time, we aimed to improve school building infrastructure with environmentally friendly activities and interventions, as well as the creation of safe and welcoming learning spaces. We worked on the basis of inclusion and sought the participation of students with fewer opportunities. We enriched the program with a variety of activities that included traditional methods, modern digital technology, experiential actions etc.
