Our school's goal was to train members of the educational staff in new innovative methodologies for teaching and learning in the 21st century by setting up two (2) interdisciplinary teams of teachers, with experience in European programmes, organizational experience, and several years of service ahead of them, in order to capitalize on their expertise. In particular, the objectives of the training concerned a) the improvement of the teaching practice through the formation of a more active learning environment, which involves all students in the acquisition of knowledge, providing them with opportunities for investigation, discovery, questioning, creativity and feedback, and leads them to self-awareness, self-activity, the cultivation of metacognitive abilities. b) In addition, the educational experience should act as an element of inspiration for other teachers of the same or different schools.
Our application for training arose from the need to strengthen teaching approaches and educational work and to adapt the school to the challenges of 21st-century society and the conditions brought about by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. In this context, our main aim was to strengthen the skills of the participants but also to acquire new skills, which teachers need to be effective in the modern school, i.e. able to have a positive effect not only on cognitive but also on the social, psychomotor and emotional development of the students.
