Objectives

The creation of the "Outdoor Classroom" was a plan that through its implementation aims at the following: 1. The strengthening of learning motivation as well as the contact with nature that reduces stress and causes feelings of rejuvenation and freedom. The transfer of the classroom to nature is a non-traditional teaching method that can help students with learning difficulties to integrate better. 2. The enhancement of students' environmental consciousness as their contact with nature can lead to conscious behavioral choices friendly to the environment. 3. The smooth reintegration of the school community into everyday life after the stressful period of the Covid-19 pandemic, utilizing the school's courtyard and using the natural environment as a tool of mild adaptation and psychological relief.

Background

During the school year 2022-2023, the 1st Junior High School of Oraiokastro operated with 296 students and 31 teachers. Our school supports: 1. Inclusion, as in our student workforce there are foreign students, a student with Down syndrome and students with learning and social problems, at a rate of about 10%. 2. The strengthening of the environmental consciousness of students and teachers through the implementation of corresponding programs. 3. The integration of new technologies and innovative teaching methods in the educational process and the continuous training of teachers in them. 4. Raising awareness on volunteering and the participation of the school community in actions that support individuals or groups in need. Our project includes the construction of an outdoor classroom, which will give the school community the opportunity to transfer the educational process to it. It was constructed in a suitable space in the grove of coniferous trees in the schoolyard and includes 25 seats – parts of tree trunks – arranged in a way that allows a collaborative way of teaching.
