The project aims: a. to deepen our understanding of the interconnection between the science of Astronomy and the climate crisis, and to promote teachers’ and students’ awareness of the environmental challenges, b. to make evident the benefits of integrating Astronomy across the curriculum and to provide our teachers with ideas and practical examples of cross-curricular activities involving Astronomy, c. to upgrade our teaching practice in STEM Education and in Education for Sustainability with reference to interdisciplinarity and skill building, d. to take advantage of the school’s technological equipment and to improve the use of digital tools and environments that promote authenticity, active and individualised learning, e. to foster our school’s internationalisation, reinforcing a European dimension through the establishment of collaborative networks and the exchange of practices with foreign colleagues and education experts.
The 1st Experimental Primary School of Thessaloniki (AUTh) is an open school that seeks continuous improvement through the updating of the teaching methods applied across the curriculum, the promotion of individualised learning, the connection and collaboration with the local and wider society, and the strengthening of the European dimension in the education provided. To this end, in the project "Skills building for environmental sustainability through Astronomy", Astronomy serves as the starting point for the implementation of a holistic approach to STEAM and Sustainability Education, which draws on educational innovation for the teaching and learning of both STEM and non-STEM subjects, and often in collaboration with educational and social actors. The implemented activities enhance the European perspective of our organization, improving our ability to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills and inspiration to pursue a global identity, and to face and resolve global challenges.
