Background

The Primary Education Directorate of Trikala aimed to improve literacy skills by developing students' cultural and digital literacy through web applications that exploit the cultural identity of each country. The aim was to cultivate skills and values for the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage. With ICT, students combine the real world with virtual objects and collaborate in an exploratory way, drawing on their experiences. The programme encourages cooperation and coexistence between peoples, passing on common elements, fostering tolerance of difference and diversity. The cooperation between partners has promoted local cultural heritage through technology, enhancing the European dimension. Technology, with appropriate manipulation, brings tradition to life by combining virtual and real worlds. Finally, the need to introduce cutting-edge technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, and modern educational techniques, such as game-based learning, into the Greek school led to this proposal. The aim is to provide teachers with the tools to integrate these new approaches properly, giving them motivation and support.
