Objectives

The primary goal of the BEE-In project is to enhance the transfer of knowledge and technology in the beekeeping sector. Improving the access to information on new technologies and training for beekeeping professionals is crucial for sectoral development, economic and environmental sustainability, food safety and health and international competitiveness. Scientific progress is also essential, as it promotes knowledge sharing and encourages the use of technology and innovation in beekeeping. The Erasmus+2021 Call supports the advancement of cooperation and the development of a digital knowledge base in vocational education and training (VET), enhancing innovative digital training technologies and sustainable management practices in the field. There is a pressing need for the establishment of VET digital training programs for beekeepers, facilitated by educational institutions. The BEE-In project focuses on implementing innovative methods for knowledge exchange that capitalize on new digital technologies.

Background

Knowledge, skills, and innovation are essential for sustainable development. Modern agriculture relies heavily on new technologies, particularly information and communication technologies (ICT) and software solutions, for training and managing production processes. Apiculture, as part of agriculture, also benefits from these advancements. However, apiculture still lacks technical and technological training compared to other sectors. There is a significant technological gap in European apiculture, especially in countries like Greece, Italy, Cyprus, and North Macedonia. Vocational Training Education (VET) in these countries offers limited to no training in apiculture. Addressing this gap is crucial for the future of apiculture and regional development. The BEE-In project aims to bridge the gap through digitalization in apiculture and VET, with a focus on training and dissemination activities. This project highlights the importance of digitalization in apiculture and VET, areas that have been overlooked in educational practices.
