Objectives

The main topic and objective of our Youth Exchange was the environmental awareness and eco sustainability. Our country, is serving as a model in the environmental approach in Europe. For this, we thought it would be nice to organize a YE about this topic. Human beings and the environment are two things that codependent on one another. The problem today is that many people are ignorant and oblivious of their responsibility to the environment and have thus continued to unknowingly or knowingly carry out activities that are harmful to the environment. In order to counter this, great focus is being pointed at youth as agents of change to sustain the environment and create awareness among the whole human population. The main points gained by the participants of this YE: -learned new and useful skills; -gained practical experience in the field or environmental volunteerism; --witnesses the Greek attitude towards the environmental awareness; -got to know eco sustainability in numbers; -had a general idea of European environmental reality; -had the opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills; -had the opportunity to explore a career, or develop a career by finding a volunteer position in their field of study Volunteer work experience will impress future employers. -got to know 8 key competences of YOUTHPASS. The goal is to limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels. For most Greeks today, sustainability is not yet a way of life. Although, Sweden ranks first in the EU in consumption of organic foods, leads the way in recycling drinks cans and bottles, and gets the highest share of its energy from renewable sources, Greece continues to rank low with a score of 75 and a ranking of 19th in comparison with the EU27 countries. Greece finds itself behind the EU average in the indicators of eco-innovation inputs, resource efficiency and on socioeconomic outputs. Its performance on eco-innovation activities is closer to the EU average but shows a decline in results from previous years. It performs the best on the eco-innovation outputs, which are higher than the EU average. In view of the above, we wished for this Youth exchange to be an inspiration for the youngsters to can continue acting in a responsible and caring way when it comes to their, our own and the future generations' clean and safe environment. We wanted these young people to be the voice for the preservation of global wildlife both at sea and land, minimization of human-made harm to the natural environment and cutting down on unnecessary emissions. EU is a world leader in combating climate change but more needs to be done. In this way, through this youth exchange, we wanted to do exactly that, doing more! With this project, we wanted to motivate the young participants towards being active and towards voluntarism through non-formal educative - learning methods. Young people need to be active and with our YE, we intended to motivate them towards being active and towards voluntarism through non-formal educative - learning methods. By implementing the project we further wanted the participants : >to understand the importance of volunteering and at the same time to come out of their comfort zone. >to learn new concepts, approaches and terminologies from other languages >to learn about different cultures, >Being more open towards people coming from different countries and cultures >to learn new words and expressions (such as European dimension, evaluation, aims and objectives, participant, beneficiary, young people with fewer opportunities, inclusion, application, active participation, etc.) > to understand the necessity that our worlds needs to deal with in order to promote environmental sustainability. >to be taught new eco-friendly ways of living. >To have the opportunity to search, analyse and thus understand how we can change our daily habits so as to promote the environmental sustainablity and reduce their ecological "footprint".
