Objectives

Start4SD objectives were to: • Support entrepreneurship for youth as part of the European Reference Framework on Key Competences • Capitalize on the Resolution adopted by the European Parliament in 2015 stressing the role of Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation in order to contribute to youth unemployment • Develop, test and implement innovative practices by providing social entrepreneurial competences, such as business and strategic planning with a sustainability dimension • Develop an award system for youth-led SMEs

Background

Stars4SD was developed to enhance youth entrepreneurship in the EU, focusing on active citizenship and innovation, and emphasizing the significance of five SDGs. It addressed the gap in young entrepreneurs' skills and knowledge, equipping them to navigate and excel in sustainable business practices. Addressing Youth Needs: Despite high interest in entrepreneurship, only 6.5% of EU youth were self-employed by 2018. Stars4SD aimed to break down barriers like limited entrepreneurial education and awareness, offering training to inspire and sustain successful youth-led businesses. Partner Needs: The project supported NGOs, environmental CSOs, youth organizations, and business associations by providing systematic training materials and methodologies. This bolstered the infrastructure for entrepreneurial education, aligning it with sustainability goals. Societal Needs: Tackling EU's youth unemployment challenge, Stars4SD aimed to boost employability and entrepreneurship skills, enhancing job prospects and fostering a resilient, entrepreneurial mindset. Stars4SD represented a multifaceted approach to societal, educational, and entrepreneurial challenges, prioritizing sustainability and skill development for Europe’s youth.
