Objectives

The primary objective of this project is to enhance the teaching competencies of our professionals, who are dedicated to adult education for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Given the significant cultural diversity of our islands and the relevance of ongoing migration processes, there is a pressing need to expand the training and knowledge of our team. Effectively addressing various situations involving groups, families, or users from other cultures requires expertise in navigating these complexities. Furthermore, we aim to prevent racist and discriminatory attitudes towards migrants arriving in the Canary Islands, particularly those originating from Africa. This objective is closely tied to the aforementioned challenges facing both the Canary Islands and our organization, which serves as a destination for numerous Africans and Latin Americans seeking better live conditions. Our goal of preventing racist and discriminatory attitudes involves disseminating our educational initiatives, showcasing not only the achieved results but also the collective reality —its needs, fears, and hopes— thereby promoting understanding and empathy.

Background

Our organization operates in a dynamic context driven by significant migration challenges. The Canary Islands are currently a convergence point for diverse nationalities seeking dignified lives, especially from nearby African countries. We're also experiencing a rising influx of Venezuelans who are descendants of Canarian emigrants from the early 20th century, driven by Venezuela's economic difficulties and ties to the islands. Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the islands have become a space for people from various backgrounds seeking integration and development. As a social entity dedicated to migrant education, we grapple with resource constraints due to overwhelming demand for free services. Consequently, we're striving to secure additional funding to expand our educational resources. Preparing to address the educational and cultural needs of these individuals is a necessity. Urgently building a team of knowledgeable educators and professionals, equipped with insights into the relationship between education and multiculturalism, is crucial due to the continuous influx of newcomers. Our context underscores the necessity of adaptability and proactive engagement in facilitating the integration and well-being of these diverse populations.
