Objectives

These were our main goals: 1.Try to offer equal opportunities to students who come from very different backgrounds and with different interest. One of the objectives of this project is to build a meeting point where students, who are the same age but who work at different rhythm, can discover they have a lot in common and can collaborate. In this sense, working with Södra Latins students added even more diversity. 2.Use different ICT tools to design our map and to share it. We all learned to use tools that have proven to be very useful in current education. Our activities encouraged both teachers and students to create materials and to share them with other schools and with society. 3.Compromise with a region, Extremadura, which is really in need of promoting itself and reaching an international dimension. In order to design the contents of our interactive map students had to research on our artists, especially writers and painters, landmarks and natural places. 4. Open our schools to society. To carry out the tasks in our project our students had to contact associations, writers, painters, local authorities, etc. 5. Put rural places on the map by showing where they are and what has been painted or written about them.

Background

IES Norba Caesarina is a secondary school where students can study Secondary Education and Baccalaureate. Secondary students can enter a bilingual section (English) and can learn other languages (French and Portuguese). Supporting programmes such as PMAR and PRAGE are also part of our educational offer. Bachillerato students can choose Technology, Science, Social Sciences and Humanities. Our project deals with different areas because one of our main goals is to show students that disciplines are connected and complement each other. So students will have to work with contents and strategies from Languages (both English and Spanish), Literature, Art, History, Geography and Technology. Our project intends to reach the whole school and emphasise that we are a learning community, so we should find ways to work together to create contents that reach society. Some of our school programs ("Norba Solidario", "Norba se atreve a pensar", "Norba en verde") have already moved in this direction. When we designed our project we bore all these aspects in mind.
