Objectives

Four main objectives were firstly set: 1.To overcome diversity and inclusion challenges as our students have different nationalities and belong to different ethnic groups. 2. To reduce school failure and to prevent early school dropouts since the school has a high rate of absenteeism and repetition, especially in the lower grades. 3. To improve teachers, students and families’ digital competence, as we were forced to use digital media due to the last pandemic. We were aware of the literacy deficiencies in digital learning and teaching. 4.To internationalise the school. It started with a previous KA201 Erasmus project, however, we decided to consolidate by making new contacts with European educational institutions and their professional staff in order to carry out joint projects in the future.

Background

IES El Clot first opened its doors in October 1983 as an EGB and BUP school. Therefore, it has 40 years of experience. It is located in Just Ramirez street, nº 34, in the city of Valencia and most of its students come from Torrefiel, Benicalap and Marxalenes neighbourhoods. Two primary schools are affiliated to IES El Clot, CEIP Lluis Braille and CEIP Doctor Olóriz (Singular Education Centre). However, it also receives applications from other centers nearby. In this academic year 2022-2023, there are 493 registered students divided into 17 groups in ESO and 4 baccalaureate groups. There are 2 units of 1st baccalaureate and two of 2nd baccalaureate, in Science and Technology and Humanities and Social Sciences with a total of 91 students. The students are from working-class families in the neighborhood including immigrants and Roma students. Currently, there are 27 nationalities, being Colombian, Honduran and Rumanian the highest. Regarding the Roma students, there is a percentage of 17% in 1st of ESO and 12% in 2nd of ESO. In 3rd and 4th of ESO, the percentage is lower, 2,5%, as they do not often finish compulsory education. Our students are aged from 12 to 18 years old.
