Objectives

Objective 1: To encourage inclusion by promoting attitudes and behaviors that induce the fight against discrimination and intolerance. Objective 2: Develop strategies to promote healthy habits, both physical and emotional, through knowledge of the natural environment and its benefits. Objective 3: To promote the use of foreign languages as a means of communication and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds, languages and cultures. It was expectied that both, students and teachers, could become aware of the benefits of activities in a natural environment for personal development. We thought that being in contact with nature would allow them to become environmentally aware and promote sustainability. The exchange of experiences with young people from other countries would help our students to have a more inclusive and respectful vision of difference. We also thought that this project would improve the language skills of students and teachers, and the exchange of experiences and good practices within teachers from other schools would favor a reflective teaching practice that would involve proposals for improvement.

Background

The Ramon de la Torre high school is a public school located in Torredembarra. It offers ESO, baccalaureate, middle and high school, and PFI. After the situation experienced during the pandemic, we detected different types of deficiencies in our students, from the lack of knowledge of their own natural environment to the lack of tools for managing their emotions, resolution of conflicting situations or the increase of certain behaviors that threaten their welfare and health. On the other hand, we observe a lack of environmental awareness in unsustainable behaviors or indifference in the care of their environment. A project of these characteristics will enable them to develop strategies to increase their well-being, interact with other cultural and social realities, and improve language skills in addition to developing as tolerant, inclusive, respectful and sustainable citizens. Visiting a foreign school will enable our school's teachers to incorporate new methodologies that can be useful in promoting inclusion, and will also allow us to improve the language skills of teachers who do not teach English as a second language.
