In the first place, we hoped to promote a change of attitude towards environmental problems, generating an awareness of sustainable development in the educational community, as well as raising awareness about the impact that our behaviors have on Planet Earth in the long term. We also wanted to promote responsible consumption and energy sustainability, turning the school into a reference for action and environmental awareness. Another important point was to promote the critical and responsible use of ICT, making the educational community aware that its incorporation contributes to the conservation of the environment, as its use reduces the consumption of resources. In addition, it was essential to develop digital competence in students from a responsible perspective, making it a fundamental part of the teaching-learning process, since it has become an essential requirement in their daily lives. Finally, we expected our students would reinforce their linguistic competence in the English language and the respect for multiculturalism, which is so important to establish bonds and collaboration with other organizations in the European Union, valuing diversity and developing intercultural awareness of the entire educational community.
CPR San José is located in the northwest of Spain. It has students from 3 to 16 years old, covering all educational stages from Early Education to Compulsory Secondary Education, as well as a Professional Training course in Administrative Management. The families are middle class, with jobs which are typical in a coastal town. The school promotes comprehensive learning in students by carrying out innovative and inclusive methodologies. These include: cooperative learning, project-based learning, problem-based learning, thinking skills, emotional education and LÓVA. “Going Green!” was born from the need to make our students aware of the importance of sustainable development. We are aware of the potential that the educational community has to promote values and attitudes of commitment to the current environmental problem in our immediate environment. So it is necessary to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be able to change the world that surrounds them. Through our project we intended to develop measures to reduce the amount of waste and to promote responsible consumption, recycling, energy saving and reuse of resources.
