Objectives

main objectives: to improve our students' digital competence, aiming to enhance the students' skills and abilities in using digital tools and technologies; to enhance their communicative competence in the English language, that is focusing on improving students' ability to communicate effectively in English, by putting these two objectives on a common front: to create a digital guide of their neighborhood, which serves as a practical means to achieve these objectives. This initiative not only aims to develop specific competencies but also integrates them into a single, cohesive project.

Background

Our student cohort includes unemployed, immigrants, refugees, early school leavers, with very different socio-economic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. They often experience difficulty communicating in the language of their host country, accessing information in a foreign language and lack basic digital literacy, which very often leads to social exclusion. The COVID pandemic accelerated the process of digitizing our society only served to widen the digital divide, increasing the risk of social exclusion faced by our students. We designed an Erasmus Cooperation project that would allow us to work together in order to break down educational and social barriers, always seeking to combat, to the extent of our possibilities, this risk of social exclusion. Over the years, our students have shown a lack of communicative competence in the English language, and sometimes a lack of purpose in understanding the importance of doing so. However, we all know that learning foreign languages, in this case English, is an indispensable tool for successfully integrating into a modern and multicultural society within the European Union space of the 21st century.
