Objective 1 (O1): Create a directory that compiles the most common tax-related questions regarding remote work and other administrative procedures, so that European citizens can easily resolve them from home. Objective 2 (O2): Consolidate into a single platform models for current legislation related to remote work laws and legal frameworks for workers relocated in various European countries. Objective 3 (O3): Make the information regarding legislations enacted on remote work clearer and more accessible. Objective 4 (O4): Enhance transparency to ensure that European citizens are aware of the rights and responsibilities of remote workers. Objective 5 (O5): Establish a multilingual and unified consultation system on remote work legislation in English, Spanish, and Italian. Objective 6 (O6): Promote strong and cohesive transnational mobility within the EU labor force. Objective 7 (O7): Educate the public on the remote model through content, seminars, and dissemination. Objective 8 (O8): Inform Public Administrations about legislative efforts to regulate and promote remote work at the legislative level.
The lockdown caused by COVID-19 forced remote work to become mainstream. Companies had to implement new measures to make remote work possible and this new model changed the way they organized their teams. This model has brought consequences not only at labour level. Remote workers during these months realized they wished for some changes in their lives. Those could have been living in a different country while they were carrying out their work at the distance, or even in their own country. Public Administrations have reacted implementing or adapting the current laws to regulate this situation. Nevertheless, this regulation is still not enough for workers and companies because of social security, tax payments, etc. RemotEU is a project created to address this reality, where we have conducted research on the legislation existing in Europe regarding remote work and the models being adopted by businesses and individuals. With this information, we have built a knowledge base accessible to the entire population and public policymakers, with the ultimate goal of establishing a unified European remote work legislation in the future.
