Firstly, in order to change students you have to try to change their parents first. Thus, our topic, food, involves homes. In our school are worried for our students feeding and the way that they see the rural world and the disregard they feel for it. Though, our school is located in an urban area, Valencia is surrounded by valuable cultivated areas. However, most of our families and students ignore this fact. Creating concern about it was a goal for us. Secondly, another goal is being concerned about the importance of what we grow in our cities which is sometimes unique and is also the fruit of cultural inheritance. Being aware that food we grow is also a cultural inheritance which shows connections with other cultures and that evidences our history. Moreover, our eating habits have to do with sustainability and this is onother goal. Increasing awareness of the quantity of litter we let produce if we don´t care about where to buy our food. Promoting local products and purchasing in local markets. Besides, meeting another european students. In conclusion, being concerned about all this questions was a need for our students and their families, for our school and society in general if we want to raise awareness in our pupils.
We are a small school in the city centre in Valencia. On one hand, our students have grown in an urban background and they don´t apreciate the quality of local products or the benefits of eating good traditional dishes. Their families, like most of families nowadays, work all day and consider that they don´t have time to cook much. Therefore, they end up eating whatever. We wanted to foster traditional food as part of our cultural heritatge and as a sustainable option. Promoting healthy habits by putting together physical exercise and traditional and healthy food. We also wanted to make them know about the importance of the milenaries farming techniques of some products like rice, oil, tiger nut, oats, etc. Moreover, it was also important to know local markets and the rural area which surround our city. Another important goal was to make students and parents know the oficial organizations that take care of the overall food and agriculture issues. At the same time, this was an oportunity to share our knowledge and experiences with a European School that has also important food traditions We thought it was the moment to take action to try to change student´s and parents´s minds about the fact that feeding is not an important issue.
