The project aimed to promote education on biodiversity loss and to raise awareness about its importance for sustainable development. In fact, the project analysed the relation between air pollution and biodiversity loss, to assist students in realizing the enormous impact of air pollution in their lives while it will introduce ways for actions for changing this situation and protecting Earth’s ecosystems. To that end, the project developed a Minecraft World that will help students to be actively engaged in the learning process and acquire an experimental and hand-on training experience. The main objectives of the project are: -Raise awareness about the link between air pollution and biodiversity loss, and thus its impact on human lives. -Encourage the adoption of actions that will reduce environmental pollution. -Promote innovative training methods in environmental education taking place in traditional classrooms.
Biodiversity is strongly connected with our daily lives, as we depend on it to live a prospective and healthy life. Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity and a healthy ecosystem can provide us with vital benefits such as food, medicinal resources and pharmaceutical drugs, protection of water resources, pollution absorption, etc. During the last years we are witnessing a steady loss of biodiversity, which has extreme consequences for the natural world and our health. Biodiversity seems to concern a large number of people in the EU, with at least eight out of ten Europeans believing that the various consequences of biodiversity loss are significant. While the European and the UN have developed strategies for averting global biodiversity loss there are not important steps towards this end, while the global trends continue to have serious implications on biodiversity maintenance. At the same time, the Commission recognizes the importance of biodiversity education as it proposed a Council Recommendation on encouraging cooperation in education for environmental sustainability in 2021 and it also guided schools and teachers on cooperation and exchange of experiences on biodiversity teaching.
