The wine sector cannot be left behind, so it is necessary to identify which sustainable competences are most relevant to it and therefore develop comprehensive training that allows workers in the sector to gain the identified knowledge, skills and aptitudes. The aim was also to provide personalized training to the sector's workforce, both those working in the winery and in the field, in accordance with the skills gaps identified and making the required training available to them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In doing that, we have aimed to raise awareness of the impact of climate change on wine production, not forgetting other agricultural industries, by improving the environmental literacy of rural communities.
A fair and sustainable society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, cannot be achieved without a workforce to support it. This is why it is necessary to prepare workers for the skill requirements inherent in green jobs and to ensure that industries and workplaces do not face a shortage of appropriately skilled workers. Europe is the world's leading producer of wine and, like any other agri-food industry, contributes to and is affected by climate change. Environmental skills are essential for the winery workforce and the surrounding society to ensure a positive environmental footprint of the activities carried out in this agricultural sector. Pro-active re-skilling and upskilling are therefore necessary to achieve the aforementioned sustainable economy.
