Objectives

By implementing this project, we wanted : a) to correspond to the need of covering the lack of inspiring leaders from participating countries in the Mediterranean region and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus; a lack that leads to flow-on effect in communities b) to highlight the importance of the leaders in any mobility and/ or voluntary project as it is them who are the key drivers of affecting young people’s personalities -and even shaping them- with their knowledge, skills, and inspiration. When it comes to Youth Work, it is the Youth Workers these leaders, who are having the most essential role regarding young people, the NGOs’ activities, and the community itself. Through this project and its implementation, we aimed to empower these leaders, equip them with tools, methods and techniques that will develop their skills and competences and help them a) to motivate and engage people (especially youngsters) in their communities and b) to unfold their potentials for becoming the drivers of change in their communities; a change that will be based on values and ethics and will be meaningful and sustainable. The objectives of the project were: • To build a strong foundation and awareness of the basics of leadership • To help participants understand the fundamentals of leadership and its key concepts & discover their own leadership style and purpose as leaders, understanding the mindset that core leadership requires • To focus on the key competences for active participation when working with young people • To help participants dive deep into self-reflection, self-awareness and self-development helping them truly understand what it takes to be a good leader • To utilize the experience gained through previous work in international projects and in local organizations • To effectively guide participants to understand their responsibility in being an active member of civil society • To train participants on the positive effects and benefits of fostering an inclusive and diverse environment and targeting different groups in society Through an international atmosphere, we addressed and discussed different aspects of international voluntary projects and activities, their required preparation and the importance of leadership skills for their successful implementation and positive results. We also raised awareness of other issues that can arise or can be directly related to leading an international and local youth project. Our focus was directly linked to cooperation among organizations and the importance of leadership. Moreover, we provided a reliable and safe space for participants from both EU and non-EU countries to develop themselves and gain new skills for empowering their leadership skills. The inclusion of partner organizations from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus along with South Mediterranean and EU countries allowed us to have a broad share of experiences among us but also a broader audience for the dissemination of project results.
