Before applying for the project we noticed how global peacefulness has deteriorated over the past year (according to the Global Peace Index), especially in the times of Covid19, where rights and pandemic restrictions affected the lives of youth, especially touching employment, living conditions and opportunities. We saw that there was a need for equipping young people in tools to raise awareness about how human rights are implemented, protected and, unfortunately, often violated. The project was designed to examine the interplay between images and human rights, addressing how, when, and to what ends visuals are becoming more central means through which human rights claims receive recognition and restitution. We invited participants to develop their own communications using inter alia data visualisation, pictures and videos to facilitate understanding and ultimately motivate action. As young people, we realised it became necessary to be equipped with methods and tools that will enable us to recognize the most proven and verifiable information and create media messages in accordance with the code of ethics of human rights and respect for every human being's right to privacy. The aim of the project was to equip 24 youth workers, activists and young peacebuilders with competences in the field of creative citizenship by developing their interest in human rights and activism, equipping them with peacebuilding competences in order to address the European human rights issues by designing visuals for human rights in their respective communities. The objectives were: - to explore the concepts of active participation, positive and negative peace, peacebuilding and human rights and map its possible violations all over the Europe; - to get familiar with the human rights and mechanisms of its legal protection in the context of using it as a tool for peaceful transformative social action; - to empower youth workers to take active role in addressing the mapped human rights issues and to stand up against them by using the visual tools; - to gather good practices in raising awareness on human rights issues with the use of visual tools; - to raise the employability of the participants with the competences of critical thinking, factfullness, digital design, researching reliable sources, spotting media manipulations, media literacy, ability to distinguish facts, opinions and emotions, - To create space for participants to design at least 8 visual human rights oriented actions organised in cooperation with the local authorities and communities; - To create with participants the guideline for youth workers and peacebuilders on using artivism as a new educative language for transformative social action; - To create part of the website of YPAN with the visuals of data for human rights including series of interviews, videos and infographics - to create sustainable educational materials and tools for learning in the digital ecosystem in the topic of human rights and its visual aspects (including e-learning platform and online talk-shows channel).
