The MOV-EU project was born after a study by the Youth Council of Alfafar on the interests and needs of young people. After a research process in which the youth of the municipality were asked, it was concluded that the approach of European policies should be included in the Municipal Youth Plan and that the environment or unemployment are issues that concern young people. All this had as a consequence a low participation of youth in political life both at municipal and European level. It is in this context, given the low participation of the youth sector in the municipality, in which this project arises both as a starting point and as an opportunity. The main objective of the project was to bring European policies closer to the municipal context and to involve young people in the political life of the municipality. Thus, it sought to establish a mutually beneficial exchange between the Public Administration of Alfafar and young people since, on the one hand, we wanted young people to be more active in transmitting their concerns or ideas for improvement as far as the municipality is concerned and, on the other hand, the City Council received specific demands to be able to respond and address more effectively. MOVEU also had an educational objective. On the one hand, issues of concern to young people such as youth unemployment, climate change or how to adapt to an increasingly digitized world have been addressed. On the other hand, training has been carried out on topics related to the European Union with the aim of giving young people a general idea of the objectives of the European Union and the decision-making processes. The aim was to train them in these matters while putting their knowledge into practice through the creation of policies for their municipality. To give value to the proposals approved by the young people, the municipal corporation undertook to bring these proposals to a plenary session that the young people could attend. The final objective was therefore that, at the end of the project, the young people would feel more encouraged to contribute to the political life of their municipality and would also know the ways in which to do so.
