One of the fundamental pillars of this project was to respond to the need to generate greater involvement of young people in the public, democratic, and political life of the Valencian territory, from the regional to the local level. This need arose from sociological studies highlighting the distance between young people and institutions, the lack of interest in participating in democratic processes such as voting in elections, and the disillusionment with institutional politics as a mechanism for societal transformation. In this sense, the project aimed to foster and promote the participation of youth in the democratic life of Valencia by creating spaces to facilitate dialogue between young people, whether affiliated or not, and their respective public administrations. To achieve this, it was essential to enable and create spaces for meeting, learning, and collective action that would promote dialogue between young people and public administrations, especially at the local level, utilizing Local Youth Councils as a channel for transmitting and facilitating political impact. Through these spaces, the project sought to equip young people, both those who do not regularly participate and those who do, with tools to be aware of their fundamental rights and how many of them can be violated if they do not engage in democratic processes. Therefore, one of the main pillars of the project was for participants to experience processes and become familiar with spaces for advocacy and proposal building. In addition to content training, information was considered a key component for empowering young people. For this reason, great emphasis was placed on providing training in detecting fake news, evaluating media reliability, fact-checking, and interpreting information after consulting multiple sources. All of this was aimed at guaranteeing the right to information and ensuring that it is of the highest quality and reliability. The project also aimed to empower young people to receive and disseminate critical and responsible messages, build a collective discourse, and engage in dialogue with other young people as well as with the administration, adapting their discourse to the appropriate channels in each case. More specifically, the project aimed to promote institutional engagement with young people by directly involving political figures with decision-making power. This involved establishing dialogues and spaces for debate, exchange of experiences and knowledge, and the creation of joint proposals and initiatives. In these spaces, young people learned to debate, confront opinions, defend their positions, reach agreements, and develop communication and debating skills. It was of particular interest to involve young people who were not affiliated and who did not regularly participate in the life of their municipality. Typically, this lack of involvement stems from a lack of opportunities and the bureaucratic procedures and permissions required for minors to participate. Therefore, young people who are not part of associations often do not feel engaged in these processes and are unaware of avenues for participation. It was necessary to make these avenues known and facilitate their access. As for affiliated youth with a history of participation, the project aimed to empower them to generate a consensus-based youth discourse and engage in political impact within the Youth Councils, enabling them to influence the reform of cross-cutting youth policies as valid interlocutors with the administrations according to the Valencian Youth Law. In other words, the project aimed to equip the councils to generate spaces for dialogue and participation at the local level, involving participation from different profiles of young people, both affiliated and non-affiliated. Furthermore, through the actions, the project aimed to promote the Erasmus+ program and provide specific training on the Youth Goals, Erasmus+, and the learning and exchange opportunities it offers to youth councils. The goal was to encourage youth councils and youth organizations to embrace these programs to enhance their work and raise awareness among young people in their territorial scope. In summary, the project aimed to create a pathway of processes for young people to become the center of their own interpersonal development and establish mechanisms or strategies to convey their message. It also aimed to improve their information and competencies to ensure high-quality participation that would enable them to continue learning and getting involved in projects that improve their environment, whether at the local, regional, national, or European level.
