Objectives

We wanted to inquire, what sort of solutions were implemented by other teaching organisations outside of the Finnish basic music education system for distant teaching purposes, and whether or not some of those practices followed in to normal teaching situations as well. We also wanted to share our own knowledge and solutions to the other participants. Trough the project the aim was to compare and take advantage of the experience and know-how of the other participants, where applicable to our own distant teaching methods and practices. Our long-term aim was also to create a vision for the future concerning distant teaching in Sastamala, especially for possible composition studies.

Background

The project was created following the COVID-19 pandemic, during which it became evident that the distant teaching methods and practices needed a set of best practices followed by the teaching staff. Sastamala School of Music provides basic music education in the city of Sastamala according to the standards set by the Finnish National Board of Education and the law pertaining to music education.
