For this project Kalevan lukio has organised an integrated course in Civics, French, German and English in order to show how important it is not only to master themes such as European Union and its policies but also to be able to talk and discuss them in Foreign Languages together with other European citizens. Our objective was to integrate several School Subjects to have an overall understanding of the importance of different kind of knowledge and languages skills in working life and it this we succeeded. We also wanted to enlarge our European network both with a new Austrian partner school and with a school in Luxembourg where we sent a teacher for job shadowing activity. One of our objectives was to create new projects and mobilities and indeed new projects and mobilities with both school have already taken place in forms of group mobilities and individual mobilities of some of our students in Austria. We have also several plans to go on with the thematic studies on European Union with the Austrian school and next visits are expected to take place in May 2023.
Kalevan lukio is a Finnish senior secondary school with a large amount of courses in various subjects, an important language programme and as a speciality a large offer of Music Studies. International studies have an important role in the school curriculum. The studies of languages other than English have been declining in Kalevan lukio, as in Finland in general, during several years and therefore the school has made attempts to encourage the students to study languages. European cooperation in terms of Erasmus programmes and mobilities has been one of the successful ways to encourage the students to study languages and to understand the meaning of languages skills in working life and in intercultural communication. Integration of different school subjects, such as Civics and Languages or Music, is also considered very important and our Erasmus projects have made them possible. It has also been the case in this project where an integrated groop mobility project in Civics and Languages has been organised as well as during the job shadowing of our Music teacher.
