Objectives

Our goal was to support the professional development of our team members, and to develop the content of the curricula paths of Oulu. We also wanted to get new ideas and tools to create bigger entities that combine our paths. By entities that connect paths, we mean the so-called SKY activities that combine, e.g., STEAM, sustainable development and entrepreneurship education. With the help of the Erasmus+ project and its mobilities, we also wanted to offer our team members the opportunity to develop their own skills in an international context. We are active in various international networks and receive several groups of foreigners every year. It is therefore important for our team members to be able to function fluently in English, and the mobilities offered a good practice opportunity for this as well.

Background

The aim of our project Learning future skills was to encourage the professional development of our team members and to develop the curricula paths of Oulu to build entities that connect the paths. We are a team of advisory teachers, and we work in the Educational and Cultural services of Oulu, in the development unit’s expert services. In our team, there are advisory teachers, project managers and experts. Our task is to support our kindergartens, schools, and upper secondary schools in their everyday work. Each member of our team is responsible for developing the contents of one or more curricula paths. The topics of the paths are, e.g., sustainable development, participation, well-being, information and communication technology, entrepreneurship education and global education. The main goals of our city strategy are also internationality, sustainable development, participation and well-being, and digitalization. Thus, our curricula paths also support the priority areas of our strategy.
