The Peace Education Institute (RKI) sees youth work very significant for supporting young people's growth into respectful, peace-promoting, active global citizens. Thus, one of the central reasons for our existence and a core mission is to promote the implementation of peace education in young people's leisure time and to develop new means and methods, in collaboration with young people and youth workers, to make the world more just and equal for everyone. In accordance with our strategy, all of our activities focuses on three thematic priorities: 1. anti-racism 2. equality and equity 3. global responsibility. All of these are compatible with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program and are vital for international cooperation based on sharing experiences, learning from one another, and co-development for high-quality and impactful youth work. The global pandemic, climate change, and, especially, the aggressive war initiated by Russia in the past three years have deeply shaken people's sense of safety and security and trust for the future. The horrors of war, the fear of nuclear conflict and global destruction, and the growing enmities need counterbalances in opportunities for cooperation across borders. Peace can be built in many other ways than militarization and preparing for armed defense. International mobility can create trust, transformative changes, and hope for young people. These are needed in Europe now more than ever! Through the mobility activities of the Erasmus+ program, we have been able to participate in the international cooperation and discussions about the future of youth work, gather good practices, notice weak signals, and discover new perspectives that can be brought to the forefront when we seek to influence discussions about young people and the policies and guidelines affecting them and defining youth work. And, of course, provide places for youth workers and young people to assess, share, and develop their own skills, knowledge, experiences and values. Our goal is to further strengthen our international networks during the new program period and establish new cooperation models with organizations representing various minorities to more prominently present their perspectives and expertise in the Finnish and international cooperation and work related to youth work and peace education. The purpose of our long-term national and international work, with intertwining and mutually supportive network-like operations, is to support the creation of new partnerships, develop new bold ideas, and the advance of diverse participation methods and the equality of youth work. An annual predictable funding for mobility provided by the Erasmus+ program positively contributes to achieving these goals, enabling the establishment of new partnerships and networks, inclusive long-term planning processes for activities, and improved involvement in various existing national and international networks. After obtaining accreditation status, the Erasmus+ program has been a significant resource for the development of youth work in RKI. The growth of our youth work in five years from irregular training for youth workers to a multidisciplinary team of four employees and continues activities that reach thousands of youth workers and young people annually, would not have been possible without the support of the Erasmus+ program. Over the years, the international study visits, training, and seminars funded by the Erasmus+ program have allowed us to develop our work, Finnish and European youth work, and provide inclusive, safe, and anti-racist meaningful learning processes and experiences for volunteer and professional youth workers, who would not otherwise would be able to benefit from international cooperation and mobility actions.
