Objectives

The aim of this project was to bring new possibilities to internationalize the young people living in the countryside. Also Kuudestaan ry wanted to give them ways to work with the themes they are interested in, in ways that motivate them and are really something new compared to normal school days. In this project the theme was climate and you; young people wanted to make this subject more concrete. They discussed and saw with the help of videos and pictures how the climate change already affects around the Europe and everyday life in three countries participating in this project: Finland, Spain and Ireland. Important part of the project was to give young people courage to speak English and make new friends with people coming from other countries. Also, participants from Finland learned to appreciate new details in their home area in the countryside of Finland when they introduced their home area to the visitors. In addition to that, the goal of the project was to bring new actors to the international youth work in the South Ostrobothnia. Leader Kuudestaan ry wants to be the actor that brings international possibilities to the youngsters in the area which is the least internationalized in Finland. That way the younger generation could grow up more open minded and have better language skills than the older generations in the area. Among other goals Leader Kuudestaan ry wants to bring new Leader groups to work towards more international atmosphere among local youngsters. Small finnish countryside towns don`t have enough resources to arrange youth exchanges or international youth work, also immigrants mostly live in bigger cities. Because of that there is a risk that young people living in the countryside don`t have same possibilities to develop their international skills as young people living in bigger cities have. Leader groups could be a natural organization to start work with this theme more.
