Objectives

The Youth Division´s guidelines of youth work are defined in our Youth work Curriculum. The curriculum divides youth work into 4 methods: Strengthening the youths´ agency, Youth work with groups and communities, inspire youth to be active citizens, to make an impact and do their independent activities, safeguard the interests, and make an impact on living conditions of the youth. This coincides with the three main objectives of the EU Youth Strategy to engage, connect, and empower young people. Erasmus+ is an excellent tool to achieve all goals, to do quality youth work as it relays on same ethics and principles as the Youth Division´s curriculum, mission, and vision. The Erasmus+ projects provided both youth and those working with them opportunities to learn, share their knowledge and do things together as well as lifelong memories. We felt that Erasmus+ is an excellent tool to achieve all goals, to do quality youth work within a European context. To implement the Erasmus+ accreditation in line with the EU youth work strategy, using the Youth Curriculum tools was an objective well met during our first funded year. Our objective was to do a process around the Erasmus+ accreditation and it´s mobilities. The Youth Division did in the accreditation application (2020-1-FI01-KA150-YOU-092793) a plan about open application for the mobilities, yearly Erasmus+ meetings, Erasmus+ Teams channels with tips and advice about Erasmus+ mobilities and seminars. All planned activities within the organisation has been done already first year. Furthermore, those taken part in Erasmus+ mobilities has talked about their experience in different occasions and platforms. The idea is to make Erasmus+ mobilities a firm part of the youth work of Helsinki city and to give youth and youth workers possibilities to meet up with European peers around a chosen topic. We wanted to concentrate on those youth with less means and opportunities. We do knowledge-based youth work, we do more where there is more needed. To provide those youth with less possibilities, experiences, that they otherwise would not have possibilities to have. All these objectives were met first year, even if the mobilities was not too many due to Covid-19. The result of the accreditation of Erasmus+ has exceeded our expectations. The objective was to apply for the accreditation process within the organisation, which is a result per se. This has made the organisation to be more strategic regarding Erasmus+ and international youth work, as well as give more opportunities to the youth and youth workers in the future. The accreditation also obliges the management to be updated on the Erasmus+ accreditation as it is presented to them twice a year. The Erasmus+ accreditation processes with open applications, support, spreading relevant info and counselling also requires time and effort. Therefore, the Youth division will make a separate strategy for international youth work year 2024 with strategic annual goals.
