The youth exchange "Healthy and Happy" was an international youth exchange related to a healthy lifestyle promoted to young people aged 16 to 25. It was held for 6 days + 2 travel days in Tuusula, near Vantaa in Finland. The project involved 31 participants from 3 countries - Finland, Estonia and Latvia. It primarily focused on the topic related to young people's interest in a healthy lifestyle, including preparing healthy meals and discovering physical activities. All 3 partner organizations work with migrant-background young people, where the idea of organising a common interest youth exchange was introduced. On the stage of the brainstorming, young people with migrant backgrounds from different countries shared an interest in the topic of a healthy lifestyle, which potentially influences happiness and well-being. The fact that young people do not have enough knowledge about healthy nutrition and that they do not consider them necessary may lead to serious health problems in their advanced periods. Scientific research has shown that the majority of society, and young people especially, do not follow adequate and balanced nutrition. When the reasons for unregulated food are investigated, it is seen that the principles of proper nutrition are not known or ignored. For this reason, raising awareness about nutrition education and new practices in this area was very important to prevent unbalanced lifestyles and habits. The "Healthy and Happy" project had several topics, which were all interconnected and vital for the healthy lifestyle of modern youth. The aim was to raise the awareness of young people about the importance of well-balanced nutrition, the necessity for physical activity, and the clever use of technology. With the project, we aimed to ensure that young people are attracted to attention to healthy nutrition, physical activity, and other aspects of a healthy lifestyle and that they are affected positively in other parts of society. This way, young people will develop healthy and conscientious eating habits and sufficient physical activity. The project treated these issues based on active non-formal education methods. To be more detailed, we had several objectives for this youth exchange: 1. developing a healthy attitude towards food - promoting interest in gastronomy, by sharing healthy and delicious teens friendly easy-to-follow recipes (healthy naturally sweetened treats, homemade smoothies, smart snacks, healthy fast and finger food options) - increasing awareness about food and kitchen safety, encouraging the discovery of new tastes and cooking techniques - encouraging teenagers to make healthy choices by talking about how food can help them to solve their current problems with concentration, performance, depression - creating healthy food awareness by providing information on proper nutrition, portion sizes, reading food labels, etc - encouraging teenagers to cook more meals at home - teaching the young people that cooking can be fun and the results are tastier and healthier than junk and fast food, encouraging them to cook more at home - teaching the principles of healthy cooking in hands-on cooking classes - understanding improper eating habits and their consequences for the body (fast food, etc.) - developing negative attitudes toward eating habits - eating disorders in teens 2.
