Objectives

The aim of the project was to provide a model for smooth online working for VET providers. By applying this teachers’ mentoring process model, teachers' ability to implement online, blended, and distance education, as well as students' learning experience can be improved. During the mentoring process teachers can develop their digital pedagogical level and they will be more capable in offering quality learning possibilities for learners. This will strengthen VET institutions’ ability to provide high quality digital education. The SHOW-VET -project aimed to • improve and increase know-how on e-learning among teachers and trainers • increase teachers’ knowledge on implementation of blended and distance teaching • Improve digital skills and competences • Produce a Smooth Online Guide for teachers with pedagogical methods • Make teachers’ training material • Train mentors and teachers • Produce new e-learning materials

Background

The project was applied because of the situation caused by the COVID-19. The need to provide online and distance learning possibilities at VET institutions increased. At the same time all teachers did not have the competence and skills to deliver quality online lessons. Teachers needed training and new tools and especially trained peer mentors to support the work. Partner VET schools identified the same need to develop their teacher’s digital skills. There were a lot of skilled teachers and at the same time a lot of teachers, who had difficulties in using new tools and lack of competence in implementing online lessons. The vocational education partner schools chose two fields of study that had a greater need to develop teachers' digital skills and online learning material. Many VET teachers need training and support to reach the skills and the level of competence, which are needed to provide quality lessons online. Teachers needed knowledge on different possibilities and tools to teach online and how to make lessons more interesting and interactive. During the project VET organizations wanted to focus on training the teachers with the support of peer teachers and to ensure that there are more Digi-competent teachers.
