Objectives

We aimed to integrate current distance learning methods and technologies within our network, combining best practices with software and hardware solutions. This first-phase system was enhancing each partner's understanding of existing tools. The next goal was to introduce augmented reality (AR) pedagogy internationally in vocational education, enabling quality learning regardless of time and place. Teachers will gain expertise in AR, testing and adapting it to their contexts. The AR Platform will allow integration of AR technology in teaching activities, particularly in the heavy-duty vehicle sector. This will improve the learning experience, boosting student motivation and engagement. Our subsequent objective was to implement Extended Reality (XR) pedagogy in VET. XR uses 360-degree images, videos, or entirely virtual environments to add new dimensions to learning. It offers experiences of real places and situations, expanding students' worldviews and enabling novel movement between time and place. These immersive environments enhance the overall learning process. We tested these advanced learning environments and created a virtual study module, piloting it in the automotive sector.

Background

The goal was to demonstrate that modern digital equipment and software can deliver high-quality education remotely, even over long distances. We focused on scenarios typically requiring the physical presence of teachers and students. Effective remote learning demands not only technology but also tailored teaching methods. Participating colleges have a need to develop in this area. Education must be work-oriented, with increasing amounts of learning happening in workplaces. While workplace learning is crucial, it is time-consuming and demanding. This project developed systems for teachers to guide and teach students effectively from anywhere. Effective interaction between teachers and students is vital, as distance learning can be challenging. There is a need for more engaging learning environments and tools to combat the monotony and stress of distance learning. Technical issues and unstable systems can hinder students, who often work on their own devices. The industry requires a skilled workforce with knowledge and practical abilities for demanding tasks. Virtual solutions will help teachers better guide students in the workplace, and companies can use these systems to train employees at remote installation sites globally.
