Initial and continuous training for teachers, trainers and other education staffScience, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)Promoting gender equality

Objectives

We aimed to inspire teachers to integrate technology into their teaching, particularly in STEM subjects, using a norm-reflective approach. This means being aware of and challenging the norms they reinforce through their language, actions, and teaching methods. By providing relatable role models and inclusive practices, we sought to ensure that all students, regardless of gender or sociocultural background, feel engaged and included in their learning. The goal was to develop teachers’ digital competences and promote diversity in the STEM sector, creating a more inclusive and dynamic educational environment.

Background

We applied for this project to combat discrimination and gender bias in STEM education. Many children, especially girls, are held back by social norms that influence their educational choices and opportunities. Our project aimed to promote gender equality and ensure inclusive access to technology education for all students. We specifically addressed gender stereotypes that limit women’s participation in STEM fields and tackled the technological challenges brought to light by the COVID-19 pandemic. By encouraging teachers to adopt a proactive approach to technological advancements, our project sought to foster collaborative and inclusive learning environments. This approach aimed to empower educators and students alike, ensuring that technology education is accessible and relevant to all, regardless of gender or background.
