The digital transformation of healthcare through the implementation of Health 4.0 offers enormous benefits in terms of quality, efficiency, cost, and personalized services. Thus, the EUcare4.0 project aims to support the digital transformation of healthcare in the EU by developing the digital skills necessary to apply Health 4.0 in the mental health sector. The project will also contribute to the development of skills in disaster and pandemic scenarios, addressing current needs related to the coronavirus crisis. To achieve this goal, the EUcare4.0 partnership will produce an innovative training program, courses, guidelines, assessment tools, and certification, as well as an online learning space with free access to training materials and case studies on Health 4.0 technologies.
The European Commission (COM(2018) 233) and the European Parliament (12.12.2019) emphasize the crucial importance of digitization in improving healthcare, known as Health 4.0, integrating technologies such as the Internet of Things, Big Data, 3D printing, simulation, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health in the EU was a cause for concern, exacerbated by the health crisis (Health at a Glance Europe 2020). Health 4.0 addresses the growing demand for technological services in mental health. The urgency to train qualified specialists, especially VET teachers/trainers/mentors, is evident. Health 4.0 skills are not covered by European initial training programs, requiring enhancement. VET teachers/trainers/mentors play a crucial role in preparing future specialists, requiring constant updates on Health 4.0 concepts and technologies. The EUcare4.0 project targets VET trainers and mental health specialists, addressing the needs through tailored training materials and tools.
