Objectives

The Green IT for VET providers project aims to achieve the following objectives: 1/ Studying and researching the impact of digital learning 2/ Defining the lifecycle of a digital learning course 3/ Promoting good practices and pedagogical innovation to reduce the impact of digital learning courses 4/ Raise awareness of the learning community about the impact of digital practices and massive digitisation 5/ Support VET providers with technical and pedagogical tools to improve their green digital skills

Background

Today digital activities have more impact than civil aviation. According to study, digital activities will have more impact than transportation by 2030. In these times of massive digitisation, accelerated by the Covid-19 crisis, the VET industry has made the digital transformation a top priority. A recent study (Féfaur & Talent soft, 2021) amongst 600 EU VET providers or stakeholders about the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the VET sector is clearly demonstrating the booming of digital learning. 72.9% of them are now using virtual classroom solutions and 53.9% a learning management system (LMS). More than 60% of the respondents are estimating an increase in the volume of hours and budget of digital learning. Questioned about their development priorities, VET providers managers are massively replying the increase of their digital learning offer (73.8%). But none of them are mentioning or questioning the environmental impact of this massive digitisation. It is actually not surprising because the whole VET industry is not considering this topic so far. Why not? Why not developing digital learning solutions, including tools and contents, taking into consideration their impact and promoting sustainable IT through digital learning?
