Objectives

We, as a network of young peace-builders believe that young people are key agents of development and change. They are the most active part of the society who are open to new approaches, new methods and ready to face new challenges. It is also crucial to empower young people in the conduct of public affairs, while promoting their participation in local economies, societies and decision-making processes so they could be the change makers who foster peaceful, just and inclusive societies which are free from fear and violence. There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development. Taking into consideration all these factors we wanted to gather young activists and youth workers to equip them with skills and competences in advocacy and conflict transformation, to take actions more coordinated and effective, combine efforts of these young peacebuilders for better and visible results through Europe and beyond. The aim of the project was to empower 33 youth leaders to take an active role in fostering peace processes in Europe by equipping them with skills and competences in advocacy and conflict transformation. Objectives - To gain better understanding and explore advocacy as a tool for creating a culture of peace in European societies; - To equip young people and youth workers with knowledge of non-violent methods and with off-line and on-line tools to transform conflicts and strengthen culture of peace both on a local and European level; - To equip young people with skills for designing and leading off-line and on-line advocacy campaigns to address the human rights and peace violations at the local and European level; - To create a safe space to explore the role of youth in peacebuilding and possibilities for advocacy from the grassroots level by mapping local realities, sharing experiences and initiatives; - To explore the role of the EU in safeguarding peace, youth involvement and peace education; - To design at least 5 youth-led online advocacy initiatives with special focus in the digital sphere by the participants of the project which would aim to create sustainable peace in European societies. - To create a network of cooperation, coordinated in an online platform, with space to exchange good practices, tools and materials sustainable in the long term; - To strengthen the YPA network with new active members so that it can serve as a space for engagement in peacebuilding for young people. We proposed exploration of the role of youth in peace-building and possibilities of contribution from the grassroots level. During the activity the participants had an opportunity to gain competences on how to be more effective activists as individuals, and as members of the network and how to work with multilingual youth groups to provide equality, inclusion and intercultural dialogue. We also ensured space to reflect on the role of the EU in building inclusive societies and explore the possibility of the EU being the system of support for young people in shaping the inclusive societies.
