Objectives

for six in ten women worldwide, home is a place where they are beaten, raped, or subject to some other form of physical or sexual abuse at the hands of those closest to them. Today, violence against women is internationally recognized as a manifestation of the historical inequality between men and women, of unequal power relations, and unequal statuses. It is a severe form of the entrenched gender discrimination which prevents the full advancement of women. Although violence against women takes many forms, from trafficking, to harmful traditional practices, from violence within the family to violence perpetrated or condoned by the State, domestic violence is the most common form of gender-based violence. Research has estimated that domestic violence results in the loss of a total of 9 million years of productive female life, a greater loss than that caused by all forms of cancer, motor vehicle accidents, war and malaria. Studies show that 3-4 million children between the ages of 3-17 are at risk of exposure to domestic violence each year. Statistics say that 95% of domestic violence cases involve women victims of male partners. The children of these women often witness the domestic violence. The children directly observe violence or abuse. or become a direct victim of these events. Children may also observe the aftermath of physical abuse such as blood, bruises, tears, torn clothing, and broken items. Children who are exposed to battering become fearful and anxious. They never know what will trigger the abuse, and therefore, they never feel safe. They are always worried for themselves, their mother, and their siblings. They may feel worthless and powerless. in France, partner violence continues to take a devastating toll on women’s lives, families, and the State. For over half of women in the country, home is a place where they suffer psychological, physical, or sexual abuse.
