Objectives

The project “The Youth Voice and Participation” will give an opportunity to 60 young people from 5 countries to become real youth leaders and promote youth participation in their local communities. These young people will be able to participate in a complex self-development programme that will provide them with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to become active social actors. National project teams will be created in France, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia and Poland. These teams will meet regularly, discuss about youth participation and various pressing problems for young people. They will also meet local decision-makers, NGO representatives and youth policy experts to exchange with them their experience. There will be 30 local youth meetings organised during the project that will bring together over 600 participants. The most active young people will take part in one of two international Reflection Weeks that will be organised in France and Estonia. They will give a chance to 60 young people to reflect about youth participation and European citizenship and exchange their experience and opinions. These Reflection Weeks will also provide young people with concrete participation methodology that they will be able to use in the follow-up stage. Each Reflection Week will have a particular focus on a certain aspect of youth participation. A part of each Reflection Week will be a Participation Day, a large youth forum/conference bringing together international participants, local young people and policy-makers. Through these Participation Days, we aim to reach several hundred young people. Each of the Participation Days will be centred around the topic of the Reflection Week. Young people will debate with decisions-makers, MEPs, deputies, mayors, etc. about various topics and the results of the discussions will after be presented to them and published on the website. The Participation Day will be organised in cooperation with local authorities and give visibility and content to the event. Experts will take part in the Participation Day. The discussions during the Participation Days will be facilitated by the young “participation ambassadors” themselves to give them a chance to experience leading a real participation activity. After coming back home, young participants will be encouraged to use their newly acquired competences and implement their own small local pilot projects at local level. They will receive support and coaching from the local project coordinator/an experienced youth worker. Apart from small local projects, we will also encourage young people to organise follow-up projects within the Erasmus + programme, for example their own youth initiative. The project will have a sustainable impact and multiplier effect. We believe that many of the participants will continue promoting youth participation after the project, get involved in NGOs and organise their own projects. At the same time, the project will reach hundreds of young people as well as decision-makers and make youth participation more visible. We will use an Internet portal, a Facebook group, a database of youth policy stakeholders, regular newsletters and press releases to make the project very visible and disseminate its results.
