Objectives

By introducing the project into the everyday life and work of the school, we wanted to offer students different ways and teach them how to respond to their own needs that they expressed in a better and healthier way. During the implementation of the project, the project activities were aimed at the following goals: a) improvement of management skills in the domain of communication and motivation for achievements - we tried to offer the school leadership and all teachers tools that they will use in planning activities related to socio-emotional learning at school b) improving the theoretical and practical foundations of Mindfulness as a useful tool for managing attention, concentration and feelings - to offer students and teachers mindfulness activities as an incentive to direct attention to the learning process c) improving the conduct of various exercises in the classroom in order to improve students' ability to concentrate, focus and be aware, and to promote their personal development d) improvement and use of different games in the class to improve the ability of self-expression of students and cognitive, emotional and social development - the game as a basic need of the child can also serve as a means of directing attention

Background

Elementary school Dr. Branimir Marković Ravna Gora has 125 students. It is located in a small town in Gorski kotar. At the time of the pandemic, based on questionnaires, evaluations and self-evaluations, students and teachers were concerned about mental health, which affected their daily life and work at school. Since in the area where the school is located there are only a small number of experts who care about mental health, at the meetings of the Teacher and Class Councils and the Quality Team, it was decided that through various activities, students will be offered tools and methods that will positively affect the mental health of students and teachers. Conducting the questionnaire indicated that children are exposed to a large number of feelings that need to be learned to recognize, become aware of, and very often alleviate. They recognized teachers as people who care about them, encourage them to do better, listen and try to help, encourage and guide them on the right path. Students pointed out that teachers have experience, which they also see as an opportunity to provide support and help. Writing the project was an opportunity to provide a quality response to the needs of students and teachers.
