Objectives

Several identified needs were turned into 4 objectives: bringing students closer to nature; working on greater inclusion of students (the gifted, those with underdeveloped emotional and social intelligence and students with lower physical agility); working on digital education of students and teachers; upgrading the our school’s existing European dimension. By fulfilling these goals we wanted to improve teaching, enable a higher level of students’ self-actualisation and health, achieve better digital literacy and contribute to the positive image of the school. We are a primary school and it is our obligation to always help each and every student, especially during online teaching which was the primary form of teaching during the majority of this project. With these changes we wanted to improve working with students and enable a higher level of involvement of all students in the educational system, no matter the program of teaching (regular program, SEN teaching or IEP teaching). Our umbrella goal of the project was to enable improving the quality of the curriculum in accordance with the tendencies of the school reform and to achieve a positive reaction in all participants of the education system as well as of the general public.

Background

A. Nemčić Gostovinski wants to be a successful, safe, innovative and stimulating primary school with a strong European, present since 2014. Upgrading existing knowledge and capabilities is a constant need of every 21-century school. Apart from the European dimension we have identified 3 more needs incorporated in this project. With this project, written amid the pandemic when digital literacy of teachers and students has abruptly been enforced as the most tangible need, we wanted to facilitate students’ digital transformation so they could fulfill their academic potential more easily, especially in maths. Simultaneously, we wanted to find a way for our students to preserve their connection with nature, so one of our goals is about having classes in the open. A special emphasis was put on social inclusion of students who are challenged in physical agility and gifted students. For the needs of the latter, we needed to learn how to come up with particular working methods and activities. With this project we have embraced the challenge of creating content which is to fill the voids, both educational and social. We wanted to be a leading example for our students to embrace their challenges, just as bravely, that they will face in life.
