Objectives

By implementing this project, we wanted to respond to our students’ needs, but also to the needs of the town and the island considering our future and life on it. Entrepreneurial competences will also be important for children who do not think of engaging in entrepreneurship. Our staff will receive quality education in an international environment where they will gain knowledge and skills in strengthening creativity and innovation. They will improve collaborative, entrepreneurial, digital and management skills. With modern teaching and an approach that develops entrepreneurial competencies, our aim is to raise students who are open to new ideas and possibilities, who are ready to create innovative, competitive and creative solutions; students who create opportunities and not wait for them, students in whose hands the future of the city and the island will be.

Background

Hvar Elementary School is an island school with 310 students. Our students must search for their further education or employment in large cities which will in the near future be reflected in the demographic chart of our town. If our students do not stay to live and work on the island,, we will face the problem of not having enough children to form classes, we will face dismissal of teachers, but ultimately there will be less young families on the island. During the pandemic, tourism showed all its vulnerability, and the only economic orientation towards it turned out to be an existential problem for many families. It is necessary to encourage small enterprises more strongly in order to ensure self-employment in the future. The survey we conducted among 7th and 8th grade students showed that a large number of students want to be entrepreneurs and start their own business and ensure self-employment, but they don't connect business activities with entrepreneurial skills, because they do not know enough about them. Therefore, based on the results of the school’s self-evaluation, we decided that the key goal of our development plan is education and training for entrepreneurship through internationalization of the school.
