Objectives

Through the project, we determined 3 goals: (1) New and innovative teaching methods - development of new innovative curricular areas, approaches to learning, teaching and evaluation adapted to the individual needs of students and their learning styles; train teachers to know how to recognize and apply adequate teaching methods and approaches for more effective teaching and better student success in learning. By observing the work of schools in the EU and professional training, new experience and ideas for work are gained so that more creative and innovative approaches can be applied based on examples of good practices of partner schools. (2) Positive effect on the environment and climate change - Teach students from an early age to apply positive habits in everyday life and develop awareness of human development that respects natural resources, protects the environment and people, innovations in the Curriculum, celebrating special days and workshops for students, teachers, parents, etc. (3) Civic education through development of European identity and promotion of common values - to offer students more diverse learning environments, mobility to other schools, project-based and online learning, developing their EU identity etc.

Background

Primary School Strahoninec is a small suburban school in the north of Croatia. Throughout this project, we worked to improve the quality of teaching for all students through the professional development of teachers and adaptation to work in the conditions during and after COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to make students, employees, and indirectly the wider local community aware of taking care of the environment along with sustainable development. The school encouraged all stakeholders to lead a responsible coexistence with nature in order to contribute to stopping climate change. In addition, we nurtured civic education from an early age and instilled in students values and awareness of European identity as a community in which we can all contribute to the common welfare through democratic citizenship. Through professional development of teachers and headteacher, the goal of the training was to create the basic prerequisites for better teaching quality, from the activity of job shadowing of colleagues abroad, teaching assignment and through structured courses. By exploring different education systems and applying new and innovative teaching/learning methods after mobility, we enable formal and informal learning with the help of ICT.
