Objectives

The goals of the youth exchange are to develop awareness and critical thinking about the serious problems arising from carelessness, passivity and pollution of the planet, because awareness of the problem is the first step towards progress. The project promotes the value of belonging to an informed, tolerant and responsible European society, EU projects & programs and the creation of positive social change in the community through critical thinking and proactive action. The participation of young people in creating the content of the YE encouraged self-initiative and sensibility in the field of ecology, nature protection and sustainable development with horizontal themes of social inclusion, cultural diversity, critical thinking, better integration into society and the surroundings. The emphasis during the project is on the competencies that they develop during workshops, such as; active listening & communication in a foreign language, entrepreneurship, presentation skills, logical thinking and connecting different content - which is a prerequisite for a society of knowledge. Young people learned about patterns in air, soil, water & soil pollution, made conclusions about the current situation, policies and initiatives dealing with nature protection, and predicted the speed of spreading the negative consequences of environmental neglect and disasters that await us and future generations if we don't make changes starting from our households onto local communities to national and global levels and policies. Through activities during the exchange, youth learned about recycling, sustainable development and eco-farms, climate change & its impact, causes & consequences, the impact of pollution on human health etc. The content of the workshops, designed and moderated by young people, meant a certain process; be able to access the source of info, which requires the development of info and communication and digital competence, have the ability to analyze, critically understand and evaluate the content of info and to express themselves through creation of their own content and transferring knowledge to other peers. The project had an interesting and interactive approach through informal methods: interviews, acting, debates, DYI, physical activity, in order to get closer to youth & enable easier understanding of topics that are serious and broad, and at the same time opportunity for own input and development of ideas and initiatives. Through GreenLab activities, participants addressed specific objectives - active citizenship (development of ideas, initiatives & projects for activities after the project),strengthening critical thinking through debates, discussions, round tables and presentation of group work, and creating an inclusive and stimulating environment and greater cultural awareness of participants through the above mentioned. Through these and other activities, young people are confronted with other peers, new environments and ideas that have helped them see the world beyond their own and tolerate differences they are sure to encounter in the future and learn to communicate and collaborate with each other. The connection between education through acting and role-playing and better results in other fields of education has also been noticed, which stems from the ability it provides young people to think more creatively about other topics. A strong impact on the participants was the opportunity to immediately apply what they learned and leave their mark in real time through a half-day forest clearing campaign and making furniture from recycled waste that has found a new purpose in the community centre and will be used by young people. Through the activities, participants were enabled to independently design the content and take into account the outputs of each workshop, instead of just passively observing, which affected their psychological resilience that will help them cope better with stress & uncertainties out of discomfort & fear. Participants were taught to look and think interdisciplinary. The goal of conducting this YE stems from the need to develop an individual’s environmental awareness as a first step in creating critical thinking on specific topics through creative research in a stimulating environment. Through participation in the project, participants are enabled to spend quality free time, and the approach and methods used certainly contribute to the prevention of unacceptable behaviour and, consequently, behaviour during the epidemic. The project gave young people the opportunity to discover new cultures, habits and lifestyles, develop their tolerance, understanding and sense of belonging to European society through intercultural dialogue. Young people have become active protagonists and engaged citizens. The goals of the project thus correspond to the goals of the Erasmus + program, through projects of activities designed and adapted to the needs, possibilities and interests of the participants.
